Clarks Originals Wallabee
Clarks Originals Wallabee: The Clarks Wallabee is the lace-up moccasin that Clarks Originals has been making since 1968. The hallmarks of the original are its foot-shaped silhouette, the hand-stitched moccasin seam and the natural crepe sole. Here you'll find it for women and men, plus lighter versions like the Wallabee Lite and Meare Walla.
Where the Wallabee comes from
According to Clarks, Lance Clark designed the Wallabee in 1968, inspired by a moccasin from Germany. It was first made in Kilkenny, Ireland. In Britain it was considered too radical at the time, while in the US it quickly became a success. Since 2024, Clarks has celebrated Wallabee Day every year on 26 April.
How it's built
On the original, the upper is made from just two pieces: the vamp and a side panel that wraps all the way around the foot. The vamp is stitched by hand with thick, waxed thread. This construction doesn't need a classic insole. The natural crepe sole is springy, flexible and grippy. Clarks makes the Wallabee in standard width.
Without laces
The Wallabee also comes as a loafer, which you'll find at Clarks Originals. The Clarks Yukoner Penny takes the cut-out strap of the historic Wallabee loafer and sits on a lightweight profile sole.
