Timberland

In 1955, Nathan Swartz took over the Abington Shoe Company in Boston and, together with his son Sidney, developed waterproof boots. The first Timberland Boot came onto the market in 1973. Three years later came the 6 Inch, still the face of the brand today. The boot did so well that the company named itself after it in 1978. Later, hip-hop turned it into a street classic.

Also in 1978, Timberland put the lug sole of the Yellow Boot under a hand-sewn boat shoe, the idea behind today's 3-Eye Lug. In 1988 came the Euro Hiker, a lightweight hiking boot. Along with the Premium 6 Inch, Timberland counts both among its Original Icons.
