Adidas Shoes
Adidas Shoes: Our Adidas shoes are all about two classics that look alike at first glance: the Samba OG and the Handball Spezial. Both are low and slim, carry the three stripes and sit on a rubber sole. Here you can see how they differ.
Samba OG: built for football
The Samba has been around since 1950. Adidas developed it for football on icy and snowy pitches, and because it performed so well there, it earned the nickname Samba. The shape you know today dates from 1972, with a flat leather toe for a better feel of the ball. Our Samba OG also features leather in the upper.
Handball Spezial: built for the court
The Handball Spezial launched in 1979 as a competition shoe for handball players, made for the indoor court: lightweight, with a suede upper and a rubber sole that gives you grip during quick changes of direction.
How to make your choice
- From the football pitch, with leather in the upper: Samba OG
- From the court and lightly built: Handball Spezial
- Size: Adidas lists both models as true to size
- Wide feet: Both have a slim fit, and for the Samba OG Adidas then recommends going half a size up
- You can spot the women's models at Adidas by the W in the name
Samba OG or Handball Spezial: what is the difference?
The Samba OG goes back to a football shoe from 1950 for icy pitches, while the Handball Spezial arrived in 1979 as a lightweight indoor shoe for handball players. In everyday wear, both are low, slim Adidas shoes with three stripes and a rubber sole, so the choice is mainly a question of looks.
The best thing is to try the Samba OG and Handball Spezial side by side in our concept store in Cologne, though of course you can order both online as well.
