Pierre Bassene: Pierre Bassene is a French designer whose label is called Pierre Bassene World, PBW for short. He founded it in 2018 and taught himself the craft. Its signature is a fingerprint that recurs on jeans, hoodies and knitwear.
A fingerprint as a logo
Pierre Bassene grew up in a small town in eastern France. He first applied the fingerprint with a stencil to a pair of trousers he had bought for ten euros. For him the print means connection and difference at the same time: everyone has one, and no two are alike. That is why, he says, the fingerprint on his clothing belongs to the person who wears it.
Jeans in raw denim
The best-known piece from PBW is the raw denim jeans with the fingerprint printed on the front. It has a straight, wide cut and a mid rise. The denim is not elastic, the buttons carry the fingerprint, and there is a leather patch on the back waistband. It also comes with a digital camo pattern all over the trousers. A second logo, the globe, is often worn by PBW as embroidery on the chest.
