Origins
The Speedcat was created in 1999 as an everyday version of the fireproof shoes that Formula 1 racing drivers wore in the 80s and 90s. In 2024 Puma brought it back as the Speedcat OG, and the family has been growing ever since. According to Puma, in 2025 it repeatedly landed among the trend sneakers of the year in trend reports and on fashion platforms.
How to recognise a Speedcat
Typical features are the flat, elongated silhouette, the Formstrip on the side and a sole whose tread is reminiscent of racing tyres. All versions have a slim cut. Puma lists the width as regular, but the toe is narrow. If you have wide feet, going half a size up is worth it.
