The History of Mizuno: Japanese Craftsmanship Since 1906

Mizuno stands for over 118 years of Japanese craftsmanship, innovative spirit, and uncompromising quality.
Founded in 1906 in Osaka by Rihachi Mizuno and his brother Rizo, the brand's story began with a simple passion: baseball.
What started as a small shop for imported sporting goods grew within a few decades into one of the most significant sporting goods manufacturers in the world.

Mizuno was ahead of its time from early on.
In 1913, the company produced its first baseball gloves, and in 1933, with the Starline series, it presented the first golf clubs manufactured in Japan.
In parallel, the brand expanded into athletics, producing spikes for sprinters and long-distance runners starting in the 1920s.
At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and 1972 in Sapporo, Mizuno appeared as an official sponsor, definitively establishing itself on the world stage.

Mizuno Wave Technology: The Revolution in Running Shoes

The real turning point in footwear came in 1997 with the introduction of the revolutionary Mizuno Wave Technology.
The wave-shaped plate in the midsole solved a problem that had plagued the entire running shoe industry for years: the balance between cushioning and stability.
With the Wave Rider, Mizuno launched a shoe that is still considered one of the most iconic running shoes worldwide and is now available in its 29th generation.

What distinguishes Mizuno from other sports brands is the philosophy behind every product.
While many brands chase trends, Mizuno has always pursued a research-driven approach.
In the laboratories in Osaka, biomechanics, material scientists, and designers work together to develop products that bring measurable advantages to athletes.
This commitment to function and quality has earned Mizuno the trust of world-class athletes from various disciplines.

Mizuno Sportstyle and the Kazoku Program

Since 2018, Mizuno has been writing a new chapter with its Sportstyle line.
Under the Kazoku program, the Japanese word for family, the brand has built a global network of renowned sneaker boutiques and creatives.
Partners like Patta, mita sneakers, Footpatrol, BEAMS, Afew, and Highsnobiety have collaborated with Mizuno to create limited editions that combine performance heritage with contemporary streetwear design.
Models such as the Wave Rider 10, the Contender, and the Sky Medal have thus been made accessible to a new generation of sneaker enthusiasts.

Mizuno at Coziness

At Coziness, we carry Mizuno because the brand stands for exactly what is important to us: authenticity, substance, and a deeply rooted promise of quality.
Mizuno sneakers are not hype products with a short shelf life.
They are the result of over a century of experience, Japanese engineering, and a design philosophy that understands form and function as an inseparable unit.
